Thanks very much Michael - Sorry for the delayed response, but I only just noticed your reply.
That actually sounds very close to my issue, and I have experienced several problems with that exact file (wmiapsrv.exe) in the past.
I attempted to follow your instructions, but do not have the "security" option when I review the folder properties.
I am using Windows XP with administration access, so I am not sure that I am "in the same boat" as yourself.
I have a feeling that I am going to have to re-install the O/S to resolve these issues, as they are popping up in other areas as well (e.g. wireless networking just crashes).
